Reef Rangers is a diver-led citizen science program supporting the monitoring and recovery of South Australia’s coastal and reef ecosystems, with particular focus on the impacts of the Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) beginning in 2025.

Working beneath the surface, Reef Rangers bring together experienced divers and trained volunteers to observe, document, and record marine life across our local coastline, helping to build a clearer picture of how our reefs are responding following environmental stressors such as algal blooms.

Surfrider Foundation South Australia helped Reef Rangers launch and now support through project-based funding, promotion, and pathways for people like you to be involved, enabling independent dive teams to carry out safe, purposeful, and science-informed work in the water.

Each Reef Rangers project is designed to contribute practical data, strengthen community understanding, and support long-term coastal restoration efforts.

Together, Reef Rangers and Surfrider SA are helping return life to the coast by combining local expertise, citizen science, and a shared commitment to protecting the places we love.
