The Yuin Branch was established in January 2024. It is named in honour of the
traditional lands of the Yuin people and our community respects the Indigenous
approach to coastal management. This includes respect for the land that affects the
health of our oceans and human impacts on climate. We aim to share values around
caring for country and provide a respectful platform that listens to First Nations
peoples love and respect for Mother Earth. The Yuin Branch leadership team will
always include a representative of the Indigenous community that will bring First
Nations perspectives to our campaigns and policies.
The Yuin Branch evolved from the Eurobodalla Branch which began in Moruya in
2014. The branch now covers the coastline from Jervis Bay to Eden on the south
coast of New South Wales. This area includes several world-class beach breaks and
Major campaigns have included participating in the successful Fight for the Bight
paddle outs, beach cleans and dune/headland restoration in Eurobodalla National
Park, ensuring beach patrols do not affect access to surf breaks, and coordinating
surf lessons for youth to manage the trauma of bushfires.
Branch members work closely with environmental organisations such as the Nature
Coast Marine Group, Treading Lightly Inc. and local government to achieve the goals
of conserving the ocean environment and to ensure that development does not
impact access to beaches and the surf zone.
