Surfrider BYRON BAY

We acknowledge that we stand on the lands of the Arakwal people, who are part of the Bundjalung nation. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands and pay our respects to ancestors and Elders, past and present.

Byron Bay has a special place in the heart of Surfrider being the home our first ever member and legendary surfer, Rusty Miller. With Don Osbourne at the helm for some 20 years, the Byron Bay branch has been heavily involved in stopping inappropriate development in the region.

The local Surfrider team are currently busy supporting both local issues and help run the foundation at a national level. Get in touch and see how you can help protect our waves and beaches.

FIGHT FOR THE BIGHT

On November 23rd, 2019, more than a thousand surfers and ocean friends paddled out at Main Beach in Byron in support of the #fightforthebight movement. This was one of the biggest events around the country and was a major show of community opposition to the proposal of off-shore oil drilling in the Great Australian Bight.

STOP PEP11

Surfrider Byron Bay presented the fourth stop of our paddle out series in opposition of the proposed offshore oil and gas exploration project, PEP11. The event capped off an incredible month and we would like to give a huge shout out to all the volunteers that helped out along the way.
