Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast Branch launches sign at
Voss's Carpark (March 2004)
|
Recently
the Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast Branch launched its new
sign at Voss's Carpark, Torquay in conjunction with Torquay
Public Reserves.
Since July 2002 the Surfrider Foundation with support from
Coast Action and Torquay Public Reserves has been revegetating
and stabilising the strip of cliff top that runs parallel
with the carpark at the popular Back Beach in Torquay.
During that time over 2500 Indigenous native grasses and
bushes have been planted by the branch and members of the
local community.
Surfrider Foundation President Meagan McAlpine said about
the revegetation project:
" It has been a really exciting project to be involved
with, the contrast between before and after the revegetation
is astounding. Hopefully we can continue our work further
along the cliff to further stabilise the area."
The branch continues to maintain the area with regular weeding
days.
A sign funded by Surf Coast Tourism has recently been placed
on the revegetation site to inform and educate the general
public about the role community groups, foreshore committees
and Coast Action play in protecting vegetation areas along
our coasts.
