In The Lead Up To the 2004 Federal election; At Moana (South
Australia)
|
Surfrider
Foundation SA (South Australia) are a canny crew.
No, we're not talking about a campaign to turn empty drink
containers into sustainable surfboards.
Nor are we talking about the common sense of having a recycling
reward from empty drinks containers in the first place.
We're talking about having the nous (pure intellect) to
corner a few election promises from the potential politicians
in the lead up to an election!
This tactic is encouraged from all Surfrider branches whenever
there is an election at any level of government. The positive
result of strong lobbying and intensive follow up saves or
repairs a lot of Australian coast.
Current Federal Environment and Heritage Minister Ian Campbell
met with Surfrider Foundation on his recent tour to SA and
talked up how he was going to improve local Adelaide coastal
water pollution through recycling waste water in the Adelaide
Parklands.
The Senators, state and federal government, and the local
candidate visited us because they had been recently invited
to our Surfrider/Green Corps project launch.
It was a great opportunity to plug the work of Surfrider
Foundation and we organised a working bee for the event to
get as many people out weeding and revegetating our site at
Moana (just south of Adelaide).
The crew peppered the politicians with questions even a
few that they didn't want to answer.
All the Best,
Corey Jackson
