Margaret River Chapter

It has been a very productive quarter for the Margaret River Branch of the Surfrider Foundation. Firstly we hosted the ‘Run from the Sun’ – Surf doco on National Tour at the Margaret River Cultural Centre on the 17th February. 125 people watched the Tim Bonython initiative to fundraise and promoted the Surfrider cause.

Also in February, Surfrider Margaret River assisted Birds Australia with their annual Hooded Plover Survey. Apparently six successful Hooded Plovers hatchings and rearings occurred at Redgate, Boodji and Dog Beach. The Contos to Redgate section of the Cape to Cape was walked searching for Plovers by the Hardy and Pardoe clans, however no plovers were spotted…they must have been out surfing somewhere!

On the 14th of March the Surfers Ball took place at the Margaret River District Club with an ‘under the sea’ theme. 185 attended the function and pictures where shown in both of the local papers.

During April Surfrider Margaret River assisted Tim Bonython with the annual Surf Movie Festival at the Knights Inn. Again over 100 keen participants turned up for some great films.

During May Surfrider Margaret River held a celebration BBQ at the District club to thank all the members that showed up and assisted throughout the busy summer.

Next on the agenda is the International Surf Day, with dune planting and brushing at the River mouth, marine debris collection and a surf film night planned.
