“We held our first fundraising film night at Bread & Butter pizza bar in Kirra recently, and the night was such a success that we’re already planning more! Just the right combination of classic surf films, excellent music & superb food was topped off by the attendance of a great crowd – thank you everyone!

The legendary “Cyclone Fever” was the first movie on the card. With its epic footage of Kirra, it documents the 1994 cyclone season – a period that’s been called the most awesome three months in the history of Queensland surfing! Of course it wasn’t all about Kirra – Burleigh and Noosa also get a look-in, and are also shown going off in ruler edged perfection.

There were a few misty eyes in the crowd as perfect Kirra kegged away on the screen, just across the road from the actual site, which has been devastated by a sand pumping system gone mad.

We were also treated to Dave Murray and his band playing their new Bring Back Kirra song, which went down so well the audience called for an encore straight after the first.

Another highlight of the night was the drawing of the prizes in our raffle. First prize, a board ridden by Mick Fanning and kindly donated by Coolangatta’s Base Surfboards went to a young fella named Darcy from Burleigh. When Darcy was contacted the next day, he thought it was a crank call at first and was stoked to have won.

We would like to thank the crew at Bread & Butter (Crispy, Giovanni, Francesco & Matt) for the free use of the great space upstairs, excellent pizzas and cold beer.”
