The Surfrider Foundation is keen to see our network of Chapters expand around Australia. The following guidelines have been established to assist Surfrider members around the country who wish to organise a chapter in their local area.

What is a chapter?
A chapter is a group of people with common goals and aims who wish to pursue local issues and projects under the banner of the Surfrider Foundation.

Chapters can range in size from 5-50 people. They can meet as regularly as once a month or once a week. chapteres share a common set of goals and represent a range of regional issues.

Legally, Chapters are members of Surfrider Foundation Australia Ltd which gives the right to use the Surfrider logo, name and resources. Surfrider Chapters are part investigator, coastal ‘watchdog’, scientist, lawyer, environmental educator, public advocate, researcher and media representative.

Chapters play a key role in getting the job done at the grassroots level, whether it is highlighting ocean pollution problems or implementing a dune revegetation program at the local level. They are the hands, the feet and the voice of the Surfrider Foundation.
